Kids Tri Summer 2018 Wrap

The initial Kids Tri program completed in April 2018. It was great to see how far each participant had progressed over the 10 weeks both in skill and fitness. The best compliment we received was how much each kid looks forward to training each week and can it continue over winter. We do need to break over Winter but the Spring 2018 program will start on 12 September 2018. This will be a 10 week program, but there will be a break during the School Holidays.

Throughout the program it was great to see and hear about participants doing well at the school sporting events in particular making Zone and State Swimming carnivals and State Cross Country Carnivals, with participants making significant improvements on previous years placings. This is down to consistency in Training.

We did finish the season with a duathlon at training with a chance to put the skills into practice. We also attended Tri Pink at Maroubra with great results placing in the top 4 place getters or above. Our last event was the NSTC (Northern Suburbs Triathlon Club) Obstathlon event, which was more of a focus on fun and participation, but the Trifocus team did shine through putting in strong performances.

We look forward to preparing for our next training block and look forward to adding more participants to the team.

Anzac Day Challenge 100km

Hop-In-Logo-curved-words-with-Anzac-Day-challenge-logoThis Anzac day 25 April 2015 we recognise 100 years since the first landing of the Anzacs at Gallipoli and the formation of the Anzacs. As part of my recognition of the Anzacs I have decided to participate in the Anzac Day Challenge as part of a team running 100km. The ANZAC DAY CHALLENGE is a timed running and trekking endurance challenge held on ANZAC Day covering 100km of spectacular and scenic northern Sydney trails through both the Ku-ring-ai and Garigal National Parks. The Challenge gives runners and trekkers the opportunity to remember and commemorate ANZAC, our diggers and their sacrifice, and 100 years of the ANZAC spirit.

As a dual Australian and New Zealander, from a young age I have always been taught to respect the Anzacs and have had the opportunity to attend many a dawn service, march in Anzac day marches in Sydney and some years ago attended Gallipoli on Anzac day. When I first heard about this event I was instantly attracted as it was a run and a chance to commemorate the Anzacs.

In addition my Grandfather served Australia in WWII in Papua New Guinea as a Padre representing The Salvation Army as what is now commonly known as a “Sallyman” and would have run a “Hop In” tent for the troops (also since entering in my research I have discovered a great Uncle who also served in WWI). So personally I have always held a very high admiration for this commitment to serve his country and fellow man. On further research I have also learnt that The Salvation Army Hop In tent commenced at Gallipoli and so I imagine it is also appropriate to recognise this 100th anniversary for this service to the Australian Armed Forces by The Salvation Army. Therefore on Saturday 25 April 2015 I will be part of a team called “Hop In” with fellow runners and Salvos Clayton and Derek we will complete this challenge and run 100k to remember and commemorate all Anzacs who have served and in particular to recognise all Sallymen who have served the Anzac forces.

Details of the event can be found here Anzac Day Challenge  official charities are Soldier On and Mates4Mates and I encourage any donations of support to be made to either of these charities.

Bare Creek Trail Run

BCTR

Do you like to challenge yourself, do you like to run / walk on beautiful trails, do you like to run / walk off road? The Bare Creek Trail Run will be held on Sunday 2 November 2014 with either a 10k or 6k options. I would describe the run as brilliant, due to it being off road and in the Garigal National Park. The BCTR is the main fund raiser of the St Ives Park Primary School P&C and this year I am the run coordinator.

Please support the event / school and enter (the link takes you to the web page) Bare Creek Trail Run entries are now open.

Orientering – London

Not content with racing a Sprint and Olympic distance tri’s on the previous weekend, Barbara decided to make the most of London and enter the London Ultra Sprint and London City Races on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Please to report that in both races she won her category and being a good 3min margin in the London City Race. That is 4 good race performances in 9 days, I think it must be time for a short rest. Along with Barbara’s great results the family participated too and all achieved very good placings in their respective races.
