Weekend Wrap up Feb 2020

The last week of February 2020 was a good week for Triathlon and congratulations to everyone has raced during the week.

Firstly during the week it was All Schools Triathlon and Grace had an absolute smashing race. This was her goal race for the season and what she had been working for. Coming out of the swim in 2nd place and on the bike a group of 5 formed (non drafting) with everyone staying in close contact. When the run started all 5 girls made their intentions clear that it was going to be a fast and hard run. It was a close finish with Grace finishing 3rd and qualifying for the Nationals which was the goal and a massive leap in race form over the last 12 months. I was also involved with a school team of racers and of the 5 races we entered we managed to achieve podium finishes in 4 races.

Over the Weekend we had the Go-Series triathlon. The kids tri team was racing with Sebastian, Harvey, Ellie and Isaac. They all had strong races including the 2 fastest times in the boys short course for Sebastian and Harvey overall. It is great to see our team confident, fast and slick in their racing and transitions.

Finally there was also Husky triathlon with a number of people racing over the weekend. Lily from the kids tri team took on the kids race and Grace fresh from racing All Schools took on the sprint allegedly with no goals or expectations. Well when you are on fire you become unstoppable! Grace took the sprint race hard and started the run in 2nd place overall roughly 40 seconds behind the race leader. Another blistering run saw her take first place by 24 seconds. Well done Grace I am sure this is only the beginning of what you will achieve.

Go Series Race #2 2019/20

Race #2 of the Go Series was held at the weekend. Due to the recent heavy rains the format was changed from a Triathlon to a Duathlon. Even though there was a change in format race numbers were still high and the kids enthusiasm was even higher. This was another great opportunity for the kids to race and also put their skills from training into practice. We can’t wait for the next race in two weeks time. Fingers crossed the water will be given the all clear for a swim and return to triathlon format.

Relative Age Effect in Sport

Does a child’s birth date have an impact on their sporting career and selection prospects? I have chewed many an ear off from those polite enough to listen on my theories about how birth dates do impact in the developing years. Here is the article that supports it. https://believeperform.com/the-relative-age-effect-in-sport/

Go Series Race 1 2019/2020

It was great to finally get to race day after preparing for our race during this terms training sessions. Go-Series always puts on a great event and today was no exception. Special congratulations to our Tri debutants, Lily, Jake and Oliver. We were all well prepared not only fitness wise but with slick and smooth transitions. Whilst the focus is on having a go and doing your best it was especially pleasing to see 3 of our team win their respective category. We are looking for to race 2 on 16 February.

Our next training block starts on Wednesday 29 January 2020. Entries will open in the New Year.

Nepean Triathlon 2019

Nepean Triathlon is definitely my favourite Sydney race and obviously a favourite of many as this is Australia’s Oldest Triathlon.

Trifocus athletes were out racing on both days and we all had a great time. Super performance by our Female team of Grace, Alyson and Chris who won the female teams event by almost 12minutes and were the 5th team home overall. Great performances over the weekend. Most notably Grace who swam a national qualifying 5k time of 1:08:51 and a pb in the morning, backed up with a swim and ride in the afternoon and then on Sunday morning blitzed the 1k team swim in 16:28 with the nearest competitor over 2minutes behind. For the Kids tri both Charlie and Ellie performed well and enjoyed their races. I can’t wait for next year.

Kids Tri Summer 2018 Wrap

The initial Kids Tri program completed in April 2018. It was great to see how far each participant had progressed over the 10 weeks both in skill and fitness. The best compliment we received was how much each kid looks forward to training each week and can it continue over winter. We do need to break over Winter but the Spring 2018 program will start on 12 September 2018. This will be a 10 week program, but there will be a break during the School Holidays.

Throughout the program it was great to see and hear about participants doing well at the school sporting events in particular making Zone and State Swimming carnivals and State Cross Country Carnivals, with participants making significant improvements on previous years placings. This is down to consistency in Training.

We did finish the season with a duathlon at training with a chance to put the skills into practice. We also attended Tri Pink at Maroubra with great results placing in the top 4 place getters or above. Our last event was the NSTC (Northern Suburbs Triathlon Club) Obstathlon event, which was more of a focus on fun and participation, but the Trifocus team did shine through putting in strong performances.

We look forward to preparing for our next training block and look forward to adding more participants to the team.
