Kids Triathlon Squad

Triathlon Training Squad will resume for Term 1 on Wednesday 4 February. For Kids Triathlon squad please email to enquire about availability or register your interest. In the winter months we focus on running. For older children (High School / Teenagers we do have our Youth Development Tri Squad, this runs all year round).

We run Kids Tri Squad Terms 1 & 4 on Wednesday afternoons as a direct follow on from the run squad. All squads are in the St Ives area. All participants entering the Triathlon squad are also entering in the run squad. Squad training is from 4:15pm – 6:00pm for Triathlon.

We also have a development tri training squad for teenagers looking to develop their triathlon and sport further. If you would like information about this squad then please contact me.

Tri Training Term 1 2026.

The program will run for 9 weeks in term 1 2026 Training will be held at St Ives Showground (Mona Vale Rd St Ives) with run training from 4:15pm to 5:15pm and then bike and transition skills from 5:15pm to 6:00pm on Wednesdays. Term 1 training program will commence on Wednesday 4 February 2026 and will be held weekly finishing on 1st April 2026. nb last week of term will be run squad only

Participants will be required to register for the full block of training. The cost is $278for the 9 week program. Registration online is essential and all participants must also be current financial members of Aus Tri. We recommend either the ‘Standard’ membership to enable racing or ‘Basic’ membership if you are only want to participate in club races. TA membership is also discounted for members of Triathlon Clubs and if you do not have a Triathlon Club we recommend joining Northern Suburbs Triathlon Club (NSTC) as part of your TA registration process (nb the most economical option is to all also join a triathlon club).

FAQ’s

What Age is the squad for? the minimum age is 8 and children attending primary school (If younger or not in primary school please call or email to discuss their current skill level). The maximum age for this squad is 14 years old. (in Year 3 or will be in Year 3 in 2025). We do also have an older Development squad option for High School students and focus on races like NSW All Schools Tri and NSW triathlon pathways races

Swimming? you may note that there is no swimming facility at St Ives Showground. It is recommended that all participants are enrolled and participating in a swim school programs swimming a minimum of once per week. If you need a referral or assistance in choosing a swim school we are happy to help you, just ask.

Cycling – Each participant must be able to ride a bicycle independently. The bike must be in good working order with brakes that work. You will also be required to wear at properly fitted helmet at all times. Any type of two wheeled pedal bicycle is permitted to be used. Cycling will be focusing on skills development

Running – We will be running within the grounds and all participants will be required to wear running shoes that are in good condition.

Do I need to be a member of Aus Tri? Yes, all participants must be current members of Aus Tri, please select the link to go to the membership entry portal. If looking for a club Northern Suburbs Triathlon Club (NSTC) is our local club and provide a discounted membership for Juniors (nb you are free to join the club of your choice). We recommend ‘Standard’ membership, or ‘Basic’ membership if you are not racing.

Essential Equipment / Attire for all sessions includes. Water Bottle, Sunscreen (applied), T-Shirt (preferably no singlets for better sun protection), Shorts or Bike Pants, Socks, Running Shoes, Cap, Bicycle (road worthy) and Helmet (correctly fitted and meets Australian Standards).

Preparation for training, participants should focus on hydration (this should be daily), but particularly on training days ensure they are drinking water throughout the day. Also as it is after school a piece of fruit like a banana or apple could be eaten 30 minutes prior to training to keep energy levels high.

What if it is Raining? the training sessions will continue. In the event of extreme bad weather (storms) the training may need to be adapted to accommodate. If it is viewed that it is not safe to train then we may have to cancel training at the venue. Unless you are advised always assume that training is on.

Practice Event, at the conclusion of the training we will find an event for participants to race in. This will be additional to the program and the cost,  date and timing will be advised when the event is nominated. We are aiming for a Triathlon if this is not possible then it will either be a biathlon or duathlon.

Can I join the the program mid season? Entry once the program has commenced entry will be subject to availability.

Can I cancel? No cancellations all participants are required to sign up for the full program.
